Medical Clinic
This Studio II project occurred over a span of half of a semester during the Summer Semester of 2012. Before diving into the design aspects of the project, we were required to spend several weeks researching, learning and creating a booklet of Florida Building Codes regulated by the International Code Council. This programming report booklet was filled with codes we found to be relevant for the design of the medical clinic. Although code regulations have been assigned to us before, this was the first time we had to figure out what we could and could not do in a space based on the building's use, size, occupancy, and so on (with some assistance from our professors). Let me tell you, I felt like a lawyer for a few weeks as I was reading codes, being redirected to other codes and deciphering the sophisticated lingo! After the code research was complete in our groups, our medical clinic was to be designed individually within these code restrictions. The Tallahassee Medical Clinic was to provide service for prenatal, youth, adolescent, pregnant, adult and geriatric clientele. Below are the perspectives, floor plans, and elevations for my country barn inspired design.
