Zombie Apocalypse Charette
With a zombie apocalypse approaching quickly, survival modes kick into high gear! Survivors seek the safety and security in an environment where they can refuel and feel a strong sense of community. Our group’s mission was to come up with a solution and compete for the best apocalyptic retrofit of a given building on campus. Our team decided military bunkers provide shelter during a time of duty and distress where soldiers can rest, refuel, and prepare to go back out into the chaos. These military bunkers became our concept. They are not fancy, but provide inhabitants with their basic minimal needs during the temporary time they reside there. Bunkers can be shared by a small “family” of people that find comfort in the company of each other and knowing they are not alone. This space intended to relay that feeling and also offer a sanctuary where they could train, restock, and regain support before heading back out on their mission against the zombies. Due to the fact that survival mode has kicked into gear, this space was to re-enforce the drive to keep moving forward when the zombies started to move in. This project took place over a course of one week with assigned groups of four students. In mine, we had two sophomores, one senior (being myself) and an absent teammate. In this charette, I took on the responsibility of leading our team because of my prior experience with a group charette and my gained knowledge in interior design, technology, and construction systems.
